Classical Education
-
“If education is about the communication of values, or meaningful information, and of wisdom and of tradition, between persons and across generations, it is important to know that it can only take place in the heart; that is, in the center of the human person. A voice from the lungs is not enough to carry another along with the meaning of our words. The voice has to carry with it the warmth and living fire of the heart around which the lungs are wrapped.” — Stratford Caldecott
Education at its finest is good, true, beautiful, engaging and profound. At HEART, every student is welcomed and encouraged to explore and grow into an appreciation and a love for learning. HEART has graduated many students who have gone on to higher education, vocations and trades, all of whom have one thing in common: a willingness to engage, to think, to explore and make a difference in the world.
Please note, my classes are open to high schoolers of all faiths, but I am a dedicated Catholic, and my classes are decidedly and unapologetically grounded in the Judeo-Christian worldview. Students are always welcome to discuss differing points of view in a friendly manner, and they will be treated with respect.
-
HEART meets once a week, and provides work and support for students to study on their own. This gives them the freedom to take other classes, explore their gifts and talents, take other classes, travel or work. Classes change from year to year, but are always designed to relate to each other, be interactive, and deeply engaging.
-
All students are welcome: gifted, neurodiverse, creative thinkers, and artists, unschoolers and traditional schoolers, classical schoolers and eclectic, all are welcome. No student will be turned away for their inability to pay.

“…education is not primarily about the acquisition of information. It is not even about the acquisition of ‘skills’ in the conventional sense, to equip us for particular roles in society. It is about how we become more human (and therefore more free, in the truest sense of that word). This is a broader and a deeper question, but no less practical. Too often we have not been educating our humanity. We have been educating ourselves for doing rather than for being.”
― Stratford Caldecott, Beauty in the Word: Rethinking the Foundations of Education
